Now that we were beaten rather badly last week, we Republicans have to decide which way the party should go.
Do we continue with the current ideologically driven message type party, with the my-or-the-highway, rather-be-pure-than-win philosophy?
Or do we go "back to the future" to the all inclusive way of Reagan? Where politics were respectful, contentious, issue driven but lacking venom, where differences in thought, stands and beliefs on issues were debated hotly but respected and tolerated?
The party can't win with the current "conservative" base- just not enough numbers. The party must draw back independents and like minded Democrats. It must also try two winback Republicans who left or were driven away because of the attitudes fostered by the Gingrich revolution. Which brings up the question: What is conservative? Is it a religious, socially based conservatism or is it the real fiscally responsible, intelligent, not in your pocket or bedroom, defense orientated conservatism?
Is there room for discussion?
